CHRISTMAS TOY PROJECT
Early in the Fall, the Seniors had asked that you bring in any toys you were
planning to dispose of that were in good condition. Our plan was to refurbish
them and make them available to families with children for Christmas. The
response was overwhelming!  We were inundated with gifts for teens down
through infants, many of which required little or no attention. There were also
monetary gifts, and some toys had been purchased new.
Some of the seniors met weekly to look over the toys, and determine which
needed a little TLC and then the real work began. Some needed washing,
some sewing, some sanding and painting, etc. and finally they were
sanitized, bagged and stowed away until that final day arrived. Many long
hours went into the preparation and when finished, our fellowship hall
resembled a large toy store. It was very humbling.
Our final count was 47 children, each receiving a minimum of four gifts; some
of which were still being delivered at 9:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve. While it
was your donations that made all of this possible, there were also a number
of seniors who gave tirelessly of their time at a very busy time of the year.
They were: Jane and Bill Heintzman, Mary Alice and Sam Smith, Evelyn
Jenkins, Tom and Sonny Hudgins and very special thanks to Sherly Banks
and Trish Magness who sometimes worked even on days that were not
scheduled. You deserve a large round of applause!!!This was definitely a
project of love. We never lost sight for a moment that these gifts were for
children who might not receive any other; and even during those last few
hours when we were tired, and the timing was crucial, we still talked of how
wonderful it would be if we were able to see the faces of these little ones on
Christmas morning as they opened their treasures.
We thank you for your incredible generosity, and a hope that you will join us
next year. Let us never forget that JESUS loved the little children.
